Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal data francismadden.com collects, why, and how you can control it. In short: this is a personal blog and toolset, not a clinical service, and it collects the minimum needed to run the site, respond to enquiries, and show relevant advertising.
Who we are
The data controller for this site is Francis Madden, based in London, United Kingdom. For any privacy query, contact enquiries@francismadden.com or see the Contact Us page.
What data is collected
Contact form submissions
The contact form on the homepage is handled by Netlify Forms. When you submit it, your name, email address, enquiry type, and message are sent to Netlify's servers and forwarded to Francis Madden's inbox so your enquiry can be answered. This data is not sold or shared with third parties for marketing purposes.
Email list sign-ups
Some pages show an optional sign-up prompt (embedded via eomail5.com) for readers who want to receive free guides or updates by email. If you submit your email address here, it is stored by our email service provider solely to send the content you requested, and you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email you receive.
Cookies and advertising
This site displays adverts served by Google AdSense/Ad Manager. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising at any time by visiting Google's Ads Settings or aboutads.info, or by adjusting your browser's cookie settings.
Server logs
Our hosting provider (Netlify) automatically logs standard technical information for security and performance purposes, such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested. This is aggregate technical data and is not used to personally identify visitors.
Genogram Builder and other interactive tools
The Genogram Builder and the breathing exercise run entirely in your browser. Any family, clinical, or personal information you enter into the Genogram Builder is stored locally on your own device (via your browser's local storage) and is never transmitted to, or stored on, our servers. Clearing your browser data will remove it.
Legal basis for processing
Under UK GDPR, personal data is processed on the following bases: contact form submissions and security logs are processed under our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries and keeping the site secure; email list sign-ups are processed with your consent, given when you submit your address; and advertising cookies are processed with your consent where required by law, or otherwise under the legitimate interests of Google and its advertising partners as described in their own privacy policies.
Why this data is collected
- To respond to enquiries sent through the contact form.
- To send free resources or updates you have explicitly asked to receive.
- To keep the site secure and understand general traffic patterns.
- To fund free access to the site's guides and tools through relevant advertising.
Who this data is shared with
Personal data is shared only with the service providers needed to run the site: Netlify (hosting and form handling), our email service provider at eomail5.com (email list sign-ups), and Google (advertising). None of these providers are permitted to use your data for their own unrelated purposes. We do not sell personal data.
International data transfers
Some of our service providers, including Netlify and Google, may process data on servers located outside the UK and European Economic Area (for example, in the United States). Where this happens, those providers maintain appropriate safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses, to protect your data in line with UK GDPR requirements.
How long data is kept
Contact form submissions are retained only as long as needed to handle your enquiry and are periodically deleted. Email list data is retained until you unsubscribe. Genogram Builder data never leaves your device, so its retention is entirely under your control.
Your rights
If you are in the UK or EU, you have rights under UK GDPR/GDPR to access, correct, or request deletion of personal data held about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, email enquiries@francismadden.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
Children's privacy
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated occasionally to reflect changes in the site or in applicable law. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision.
